Four Basic Types Of Insulation

[ad_1]

When it comes to the insulation of your home, you don’t want to cut corners. Most homeowners are looking for any way to save on energy costs. Having the right insulation is an important part of that. During the summer it prevents cool air from leaving the home and during the winter it prevents warm air from leaving. When your home is properly insulated, your air conditioner and heater don’t have to work so hard to keep your home at a certain temperature. Listed below are the four basic types of insulation.

Spray foam

Spray foam is a flexible solution to insulation because it can conform to fit unusual spaces. Spray foam insulation is a mixture of a polymer agent and a foaming agent. When sprayed into an area it foams up, quickly expands, and forms into a hard plastic that is airtight. It should always be installed by a professional so that it is sprayed correctly.

Blanket insulation

Blanket insulation comes in large rolls of blanket-like fiberglass or rock wool that can be used on floors, ceilings, and walls. Blanket insulation is the least expensive type of insulation, but not necessarily the most effective.

Rigid board

Rigid board insulation can be made out of several different types of materials including fiberglass and polyurethane. It can be used in ceilings and walls and is especially effective in basements. It can also be used as an acoustical insulation material.

Loose-fill

Loose-fill insulation is made of loose fibrous materials like fiberglass or rock wool and is blown into the cavities of walls using special equipment. It is the most expensive type of insulation.
